Business broadband users 'will save money with cloud'

Business broadband users are increasingly turning to cloud services to make the most of their networking solutions and reduce their financial burdens during the recession, it has been suggested.
A spokesman for ThinkGrid, an organisation that provides a range of on demand options for small companies and entrepreneurs, said such servers offer a solid way for firm's to manage their data and is particularly useful at a time when people are looking to cut costs and reduce budgets.
David Pratt, chief operating officer, said that using cloud servers provides a company with the "best of both worlds" in that they give more organisational agility and boost the technological abilities of an IT department - without incurring the additional hardware expense.
He explained that at the best of times, many small to medium-sized businesses would struggle to come up with the budget and resources required to stay at the forefront of such technology, adding that the transfer of files to cloud storage solves this problem.
In particular this can be seen where companies have a large number of employees that work outside the office and require remote access to data on a more frequent basis.
"Part of the benefit [of cloud servers] is you get that access anywhere. You also get the disaster recovery side of things. It saves them money, gives them business continuality
[and] it ups the game in terms of the level of IT that these guys can use," he concluded.
Research published earlier this year by Gooroo showed that more than 54 per cent of small businesses in the UK will turn to cloud software solutions by the end of 2010.
