Calls made for clearer search engine info storage policies

Broadband users should be able to make a more-informed decision over their search engines and providers, according to the managing director of Get Safe Online.
Tony Neate explained that there should be "greater transparency" over what information is stored, as well as if providers are liable to read personal emails.
He suggested that consumers could choose the best broadband package, although warned: "as long as they tell you that they're going to be looking at the emails you send and what you're doing then you can make a personal choice".
A report released by the EU earlier this month deemed that, as well as the need for increased user notification, search engines should not retain personal information for more than six months.
Mr Neate added that broadband users should be able to know why search engines held details, as well as which information, in order to increase security in broadband usage.
