Catch-up TV services 'more than a fad'
Friday 22nd August 2008, by Daniel King
The use of catch-up television services is more than a passing fad, according to experts in the industry.
Dan Cryan, a senior analyst of broadband media for Screen Direct, stated that the technology provides a "genuine boon" for people who wish to watch shows but previously were unable.
Mr Cryan stated: "What its providing is a genuine boon in functionality, and a genuine boon for people who want to watch shows that they couldn't see otherwise."
He added that using the web for catching up on favourite shows is "here to stay".
Ofcom research found that one in five people watch television while surfing the internet and that one-quarter of people between 15 and 24 use the web to watch television in 2008.
The number of people watching clips or webcasts online is up by 16 per cent on the previous year to over 50 per cent.
