Consumers could save 'with broadband bundles'
Tuesday 7th September 2010, by Daniel King
Almost half of the UK consumers are not taking advantage of significant discounts by subscribing to bundles, according to a new report.
Ofcom's Communications Market Report has found that 47 per cent of consumers did not bundle their broadband, home phone service and digital TV with the same provider.
It estimates that some households could save up to £140 annually.
In addition to saving more money, consumers could find it is more convenient.
There is usually only one bill to take into account that is paid out on the same date, rather than three different bills.
However, the regulator advises consumers to weigh up the cheaper cost against whether the individual elements match up to their requirements and their living situation.
Most bundles tie up consumers in contracts for long periods of time and some broadband connections may not be fast enough for heavy users.
One question to ask yourself when choosing a bundled deal is "does [it] provide quick enough internet speed and is the download limit large enough?"
The telecoms regulator has said one of the best ways of finding out is to compare providers on the internet in order to scrutinise the cost-savings of the whole package against the individual elements.
