Dell's alleged web device plans 'make perfect sense'
By Tim Bisley (Thu, 2nd July 2009)
Plans by Dell to enter the broadband market by creating a pocket-sized portable device make absolute sense when the history of the company is taken into account, one expert has suggested.
According to a spokesman for Gadgets and Gizmos - a site which offers all the latest news and reviews in the field of electronics and internet developments - the company is well placed to take advantage of what is still a booming market.
Richard Sharp, founder of the online resource, said there was no reason why Dell should not expect to fully succeed and boost its portfolio by moving into the mobile web device sector.
He added that the firm had "produced some great products in the past and present" and this would undoubtedly stand them in good stead as they take on their competitors.
"Take the new Adamo as an example," Mr Sharp concluded, "It is a beautiful and powerful machine. It makes perfect sense for them to launch a new mobile device as they have the knowledge and resources to challenge others in the smartphone market."
Earlier this week, it was reported by the Wall Street Journal that sources had confirmed the company had plans to put together a device of this type.
In the article, which was entitled Dell Is Working On Pocket Web Gadget, Justin Scheck said it was expected the handset would run on Google's Android software and early prototypes had been described as slightly larger than an iPod touch.
The piece went on to say the plans could fill a market gap between mobile phones and laptops, although it pointed out no Dell spokesman had yet commented on the claims.
