Demand "still strong" for unbundled lines

The number of local loop unbundled (LLU) lines in the UK has reached almost 3.6 million, according to new figures.
Statistics published by Telecoms Adjudicator Peter Black indicate that demand for these non-BT lines is "still strong", although this may level out in the future.
The report also stated that there was a 48 per cent drop in the number of calls to BT's helpdesk regarding problems in changing suppliers or moving home in the last seven weeks.
However, MAC-related calls, which deal with the issue of broadband switching, saw a sharp rise.
"We are working with Ofcom to understand the sources of these calls and will take the necessary actions with the offending [providers]," Mr Black stated.
Earlier this week, Ofcom released statistics suggesting that the number of Britons switching broadband provider in 2006 rose by five per cent compared with 2005.
