Email stress 'can be reduced'

Broadband users suffering from stress relating to their email inbox could be interested in tips offered in a BBC report on the "information overload" from too many messages.

Part of a campaign, that will include a show on The Money Programme, research shows that one-third of office employees suffer from stress caused by spending up to half a working day clearing out inboxes.

Dr Tom Jackson of Loughborough University, who has spent nine years researching email practice, offers advice which may strike a chord with stressed broadband users.

He recommends investing in a spam filter as part of broadband security measures, taking care not to open spam mail which can be tracked.

Other tips include writing more carefully and targeting emails so that only the relevant people read it, ensuring consumers have a more productive experience with business broadband.

Recent warnings about spam mail include reports of an email claiming to be from an Oxfam lottery, which asks for bank details to transfer the £850,000 'winnings'.
