Expert: MySpace has lost its cool

One expert has explained there is much work to do at one social networking site if it hopes to regain the level of respect it once used to enjoy, having lost out to a number of its rivals.
According to a spokesman for Dadooda.com - an online facility that allows users to share content such as documents, videos, photos and music - MySpace has dropped out of favour with broadband users of late.
Neil Stapley, founder of the site, explained that if the social networking facility was to re-establish itself in the current market, it would need to attain the popularity of options like Facebook and Twitter.
He said a reassessment of strategy was needed if it was to compete with these two services, but that it could still rely on the "younger, mobile and internet savvy" demographic it had engaged with in the past.
"[People] are not particularly brand loyal [when it comes to social networking] and will quickly move on to the next free thing. Currently Twitter is cool, as is Facebook, just about. MySpace seems to have lost that cache," Mr Stapley concluded.
Twitter recently changed the way it asks account holders to update their status by swapping its "what are you doing" phrase to a more general "what's happening". In an official blog post, the sites co-founder Biz Stone said the reason for the alteration was to address the growing number of organisations and businesses that now utilise the portal.
