First Great Western stations to be boosted with Wi-Fi

Travellers using First Great Western's services will soon be able to benefit from free Wi-Fi.
The firm has come to an agreement with The Cloud, meaning that the technology will be made available across 32 stations in the UK.
Connectivity will be available on platforms and station concourses, as well as in waiting rooms. This means that passengers will be able to access the web free of charge on their laptops, tablets and other broadband-enabled devices.
March will see the Oxford, Ealing Broadway and Maidenhead stations updated with the technology, while an additional ten further interchanges will gain the services on an unconfirmed date.
These include Reading, Bristol and Bath, with First Great Western's trains handling more than 64 million train journeys on an annual basis.
Robert Jackson, First Great Western station contracts manager, noted that travellers now expect internet accessibility throughout the UK, with the services being particularly vital to those who commute.
Mr Jackson went on to say that the decision to expand and upgrade its internet services was simple due to the rising popularity of Wi-Fi.
Vince Russell, managing director at The Cloud, also commented on the news, saying: "Wi-Fi provides an excellent and consistent connection which, as many travellers will recognise, is not always possible when travelling across the country.
"This new deal with First Great Western will mean millions of extra travellers will benefit from The Cloud's Wi-Fi service."
The importance of Wi-Fi was recently illustrated by BT, which announced that its number of hotspots throughout Britain and Ireland has now surpassed the 3.5 million mark.
Consequently, BT's Total Broadband customers are now entitled to use one of the globe's biggest Wi-Fi networks.
There are 380,000 hotspots in London, while 25,000 are located in Birmingham and Leeds.
In addition, 20,000 hotspots are available to the broadband provider's Manchester residents.
