Getting the right bandwidth

Getting the right bandwidth The importance of choosing the right broadband deal for your needs has been highlighted by the Daily Telegraph on the increased demand for bandwidth in the UK.

It highlights the concerns raised by the increased popularity of on-demand services such as iPlayer and 4oD, with statistics showing that 2.2 million people used iPlayer in January this year, which place a higher demand on bandwidth.

This had led to concerns that internet service providers might not be able to cope with the demand, potentially leading to a slower service.

BT explained to the newspaper that it is important consumers get the right package for them, according to what they plan on using their broadband connection for.

"From a technical perspective, the network has the ability to cope with current usage patterns. But when we sign up new broadband customers, we make sure that people acknowledge and identify the type of usage they are likely to be wanting," said BT.

Meanwhile, TechWatch has suggested that companies will no longer offer "Unlimited Broadband" packages and will instead offer deals with a "fixed download ceiling".
