Google boosts Maps data options

Broadband users have been advised this week that Google Maps has been given a boost to make exploring the planet a more informative and interesting experience.

The search engine company explained in a post for its official blog that it had made a number of improvements in order to give people a broader view of some of the locations they visit.

It said, although Google Maps had already proved itself to be an invaluable tool for consumers looking to get to grips with destinations using options like Street View, the new choices allow you "to get a clear understanding of what a place is all about".

The blog noted the Place Pages facility, which was added to the service this week, would remove the need for people to open multiple browsers and search for data on a map point by collating information on the same listing.

Google advised it had created this option for use with "every place in the world, organising all the relevant information about it", adding data was available with a simple click of the mouse on the new more info tab.

"Now, instead of just getting a slightly bigger bubble, you'll get an entire page of rich details, like photos, videos, a Street View preview, nearby transit, reviews and related websites," it concluded.

This week the company also unveiled Google Sidewiki, an information option where people can add their own information to webpages in a specially designed sidebar.
