IKanos and ASSIA demonstrate new broadband solution
Monday 26th September 2011, by Simon White
Ikanos and ASSIA have demonstrated a solution that aims to accelerate the commercial deployment of vectored networks in the broadband market.
The two companies have worked together to create technology that offers reliable 100Mbps performance over traditional telephone performance over conventional copper telephone lines.
Through their combined efforts, they are developing an ecosystem for service providers throughout the world that allows new bandwidth-intensive services.
A demonstration of this technology will be available at the Broadband World Forum from tomorrow September 27th-29th in Paris, France.
Kevin Fisher, vice-president of advanced DSL technology at Ikanos, said: "Over time, the vast majority of VDSL networks will be vector enabled, and Ikanos’ NodeScale Vectoring is the critical component for enabling these large, high-speed networks.
"In addition, ASSIA provides the ideal management interface for those networks."
Ikanos' NodeScale Vectoring technology practically removes the crosstalk that happens on copper wire across an entire node, which brings numerous benefits.
Firstly, robustness and reliability will be boosted, increasing broadband throughput speeds up to 100Mbps. Due to this, broadband providers can extend high-speed internet access and improve the quality of critical services, such as multiple high-definition television streams.
John Cioffi, chief executive officer and chairman of the board at ASSIA, said: "Ikanos NodeScale Vectoring chip is a clear market leader that has earned broad service-provider acceptance for large-scale high-DSL performance."
Mr Fisher commented that service providers throughout the world are seeking the ability to deploy breakthrough vectoring technology in quick, easy and cost-effective ways.
Recently, Eclipse Internet unveiled its new Lightspeed broadband deal.
Charged at a monthly fee of £21.50, the service enables users in the UK's superfast fibre broadband roll-out areas to obtain improved upload and download speeds.
Furthermore, customers that sign up for a 24-month contract can save £150 with a free connection and wireless router.
