The popularity of internet radio, which may be enjoyed by broadband users who want access to the extended range of digital stations available online, has increased markedly in the last six months, reports the Telegraph.
It was revealed by industry ratings body Rajar that 14.5 million consumers have listened to the radio online at least once- up 2.5 million from November 2007.
Podcasts were also shown to be a popular element of online entertainment, with six million people admitting to downloading one, with comedy and music shown to be the two favourite genres available.
However, more listeners still tune into radio using traditional analogue, suggesting that many broadband customers are yet to discover the convenience of online stations.
Earlier in the year, the newspaper reported that Rajar figures showed the evolution of digital radio had increased listeners in Britain to 46 million, with 90 per cent of adults tuning into radio for at least five minutes every week.
