Internet conference succeeds 'despite recession'

Broadband services, technology and applications were just some of the subjects up for debate at this year's Internet World conference at London's Earls Court 2 exhibition centre this week.

Taking place between April 28th and 30th, the event brought together experts from across the field, as well as representatives from a number of companies to discuss the future of the web and ecommerce.

Commenting on the success of the event so far, show director James Drake-Brockman said turnout had been particularly high - and this was despite the fact that many in the industry have to deal with the effects of the global economic downturn.

In addition, he said problems with local transport services that affected the first day of the show was still not enough to see attendance figures fall. In fact, he confirmed visitor numbers were up 20 per cent on the previous year.

"We've been very lucky in that the exhibitors have shown a lot of support, they still see it as something important to exhibit at and that's stage one done, so we've managed to put on a really good show," Mr -Brockman added.

He went on to say the recession was affecting people in the private sector in a number of ways and this could be seen in the conversations people were having with exhibitors at the event.

"It's about the business and the contacts that they make and future business that comes from here," he explained, adding that businesses may be looking to get more for value for money, but the most important thing is that they are at least still spending it.

Exhibitors at the event included Auros, Cash Ticket, DSNR media group, fortune cookie, Rackspace Hosting, red ant, SEO Consult, silverPOP, sitecore and Smart Information Systems.
