Internet shopping grows

It has been revealed that 71 per cent of people prefer to search for goods online before shopping on the high street, according to research by consultancy group Accenture.
The findings highlight how important the internet has become to broadband users, as 44 per cent of those asked prefer shopping online, rather than heading outside to shop.
Richard Wildman, spokesperson for Accenture, commented: "The internet has become an extension of the in-store shopping experience. UK customers are making wide use of it not only to buy products, but to check availability and find the best prices."
It was also shown that there is increased frustration among customers as 55 per cent of the respondents said that high street shops do not have enough check-outs open.
However, Time Business reported that while 62 per cent of those under 30 find the internet a useful place to bag a bargain, only 32 per cent of those aged over 65 share their enthusiasm.
The findings, part of a survey by Pew Internet and American Life Project, highlighted that the older generation were more cautious and found the process complicated.
