The number of internet users throughout Europe is continuing to rise, according to a recent study.
Research from comScore found that there has been an eight per cent increase in the number of surfers over the age of 15 years in the 12 months up to June 2008, reports ISP Review.
The 240 million mark was reached at the halfway point this year, with Russia ranking as the fastest-growing internet audience in the continent.
While Russia is expanding at the fastest rate, the UK is the second largest in Europe behind Germany with 34.9 million.
In addition, users in the UK spent the most amount of time browsing the internet, each averaging 28.5 hours each month.
A study conducted by Cisco Systems recently found that despite a high concentration of broadband users, the UK's real-world speeds did not rank in the top ten internationally.
Japan was found to have the best average speed at 16 Mbps.
