ISPs 'looking to add value to services'

Friday 30th November 2007, by Daniel King

Consumers hoping to switch broadband companies in the future may be interested to hear that internet service providers (ISPs) are becoming increasingly focused on offering extra services.

According to John Carter of broadband distributor DMSL, broadband providers are now looking to supplement their internet connections with extras, vnunet.com reports.

He gave the example of BT Broadband selling a web package that includes higher levels of customer support for the monthly fee of £17.

"The emphasis now is on adding more bits and pieces to the broadband connection," Mr Carter commented.

Earlier this month, BT announced in its financial results for the first half of 2007 that its retail broadband arm had more than four million subscribers at the end of September and that it had generated £543 million of revenue through its broadband service in the second quarter of the year.
