ISPs team up with music bosses to tackle illegal downloading

Several internet service providers (ISPs) are to work with the music industry to combat illegal downloading.
Virgin Media, Orange, BT, Tiscali, BSkyB and Carphone Warehouse have all signed up to the government-backed initiative.
The ISPs have agreed to send letters to the most prolific downloaders warning them that their illegal activity has been detected.
Reports suggest that those who ignore warnings could be subject to some form of online surveillance and reduced internet speeds.
But Virgin Media has stressed it does not intend to cut people's broadband connections.
A Virgin Media spokesperson said: "We share the government's desire to address the issue of online copyright infringement without infringing our customers' rights."
It has been estimated that 6.5 million Brits have downloaded files illegally in the past 12 months.
