Mac to wage war on PC gamers online

Broadband users who regularly get online to take part in one of the web's most popular massively-multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) using their PC could soon have some new competitors.

It has been announced that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will be made available for Apple Mac, meaning those with a decent web connection should be able to get involved with a franchise that is enjoyed by PC players all over the world.

Electronic Arts announced a beta version of the software is currently on offer, with a complete and official release later in the year that will allow gamers utilising either Windows or the Mac OS system to pit their wits against each other.

Jeff Hickman, executive producer of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, said it was important for the title to have as many players as it was possible to get involved and for them to take part in co-operative campaigns.

"The MMORPG audience continues to expand and that means gamers eager to experience [Warhammer Online] aren't all playing on a PC," he added, noting that by bringing the platform to Apple computers, more joint gameplay would become "an exciting reality".

Apple users looking to get online and take part in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will need a Mac that is running OS X 10.5.7 Leopard or higher and has an Intel Core Duo Processor with two gigabytes of RAM memory and at least 15 GB of hard drive space for installation.

In addition, a reliable web connection will be required - which could prompt some to consider upgrading their services via their current provider or shopping online for a better option.
