Make Kent Quicker gives people the chance to vote on broadband upgrades

Kent County Council is giving its residents the chance to vote on whether they want improved broadband facilities in the region.
It has launched Make Kent Quicker, a new campaign where people can register their interest if they want faster internet speeds.
The local authority said that by using public funding and provider investment, around 90 per cent of properties in Kent will be able to get superfast broadband by 2015. Kent County Council is investing £10 million in the scheme, while the government will almost match this with £9.87 million.
Kevin Lynes, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development at the authority, said: "I want to encourage anyone who does not have broadband, or who wants better broadband, to register with us and say they want better broadband."
Interested parties can visit Kent.gov.uk to register their interest, taking just five minutes to fill out their details.
"This is a great ambition for the whole of the county and it is one that we can achieve if broadband providers can be persuaded to invest. That is the final piece in the jigsaw – and it means we have to be able to demonstrate the demand for better broadband. The greater the demand, the more broadband providers will be prepared to invest in Kent," Mr Lynes went on to say.
The cabinet member added that taking part in the Make Kent Quicker scheme could make a "great difference", and he encouraged people to get their friends, family and neighbours involved.
Kent County Council's website carries other information on the advantages of having superfast broadband, listing benefits for both residents and businesses.
It said that services like libraries and educational establishments such as schools and colleges will be able to offer better IT skills to people, while an improved service will let friends and family stay in touch.
