Mobile broadband "hitting the mainstream"
Thursday 10th July 2008, by Daniel King
Mobile broadband is close to becoming a mainstream product, the results of a new survey suggest.
A study commissioned by T-Mobile found 44 per cent of Britons are now keen to have the ability to use the internet on the move.
A variety of reasons for wanting access to remote broadband services were given, with some of those quizzed keen to be able to work outdoors and others eager to have the ability to keep up to date with friends on social networking sites at all times.
T-Mobile's head of internet and entertainment services Richard Warmsley said the findings indicated that mobile broadband is "hitting the mainstream".
He added: "Consumers are used to taking their laptops out and about with them and they expect to be connected - whether that's in the garden, at the office or in the park."
Market research company GfK recently suggested that conditions are now right for the mobile broadband market to grow, as operators have cut prices to a level accessible to the general public.
