Mobile broadband shoppers 'should check coverage'

A new article has addressed the issue of mobile broadband for those who may be unfamiliar with how best to make use of the technology - which can be utilised via a laptop or mobile phone.

Tara Evans explained in a piece for This Is Money that those who are opting for the internet via a fixed-line service may enjoy faster download speeds and a more reliable connection.

However, she said there are some clear benefits to wireless broadband that may be of use to notebook users, who may also find the required technology is already built into their hardware - meaning a separate dongle is not required.

The expert added that free connection is available in a number of high street outlets including McDonald's restaurants, JD Wetherspoon's, Walkabout and Slug & Lettuce pubs as well as Pret a Manger, Krispy Kreme and Starbucks.

But in addition, Ms Evans offered tips on what people need to think about when considering the type of mobile web connection that is on offer from companies like 3, O2, Vodafone and Orange.

It was advised that data allowances and download speeds will be completely irrelevant if coverage in your area is poor - therefore this is the first thing that should be looked into.

She concluded: "If you're thinking about getting mobile internet rather than a fixed line for your home then you should check the network coverage via online maps or use a 3G mobile handset to check the coverage where you use your computer."

One of the latest firms to unveil new wireless broadband technology is 3 Mobile, which announced a new Wi-Fi deal last month.
