New broadband technology for outdoor use

A new innovation in broadband technology has been discussed by one company which it is claimed could see the availability of outdoor networking solutions increase.
Ubiquiti Networks, a company which specialises in the field of wireless web systems, announced this week that it had developed a new product called AirMax that provides TCP/IP speeds of over 150 Mbps.
It was advised the unit utilises top-of-the-range radio hardware design and carrier class base station MIMO antennas alongside TDMA protocol technology - all at a price the organisation says will "redefine the economics of outdoor broadband wireless network deployments around the world".
The firm went on to explain that with speed and scalability in mind, the AirMax solution could act as a replacement for previously available outdoor broadband products that operate using 802.11 standard platforms.
Ben Moore, vice-president of business development at Ubiquiti Networks, said the product was capable of delivering on all of the promises that systems like WiMax have offered in the past, adding that not only would it match these technologies on performance, it would also beat them on price.
"The task was incredibly challenging, but the result is something the industry has never seen before," he added. "Essentially, AirMax enables a multi sectored 300+ capacity 100 Mbps+ base station to be deployed for magnitudes less than comparable solutions available today."
Ubiquiti Networks is a company that specialises in the development, designs and manufacturer of broadband wireless solutions that have in the past included the Bullet and NanoStation.
