New BT broadband product rolled out

Wednesday 30th April 2008, by Daniel King

BT's Wholesale Broadband Connect (WBC) service, which is released today, will reportedly give communications providers the chance to provide end-users with broadband that "delivers greater control, choice and flexibility".

In a company statement, the telecoms and broadband supplier suggested the new product may also offer customers quicker broadband.

According to BT, there will be a gradual roll-out of the service. It will initially be available from exchanges that serve around one million homes and companies, but could be used by ten million domestic and commercial customers one year from now.

Sally Davis, chief executive officer at BT Wholesale, said: "In order to support the rising tide of new multimedia applications and multiplay services delivered over broadband, communications providers require a new set of tools to enhance the broadband experience."

WBC gives communications providers a number of functions that may set them apart in what has become a "rapidly changing market", she added.

Earlier this month, BT Wholesale released figures showing that over half the homes and businesses in Shetland, Aberdeenshire, Moray and Highland are currently taking advantage of another of its products - "super fast" ADSL broadband.
