New web browser set for release
Wednesday 18th June 2008, by Daniel King
Broadband users who are familiar with the web browser Firefox may be interested to know that Version 3 is set to launch on June 17th.
To celebrate the release, developer Mozilla is attempting to gain the world record for the greatest number of downloads within 24 hours, reports the BBC.
Head of marketing at Mozilla Paul Kim explained: "It's a global effort to make history. There is actually no record for the greatest amount of software downloaded in one day, so for 24 hours from the moment we push the bits live, that's when the countdown starts."
Mr Kim added that he would like the browser to achieve the target of five million - a task that will be undertaken by the 1.3 million people who have signed up to download on the release date.
The new version could benefit broadband users as it contains features which can help protect against sites which contain malicious code.
Mozilla products can be used by Windows, Mac and Linux customers in over 35 languages; they are also free to download.
