New Welsh video portal emerges

Tuesday 18th March 2008, by Daniel King

Broadband users in Wales can now enjoy a portal which will host a selection of Welsh-related content, such as archive films and news.

Screenwales.co.uk has been developed by Screen Icon for use by individual consumers and businesses throughout the country wanting to upload or watch relevant clips.

It has also been announced that Screen Icon can develop web advertising specifically aimed at a Welsh audience, on what has been dubbed the "YouTube for Wales".

The internet in Wales has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, following the spate of suicides in Bridgend - leading to calls for "internet lessons" from MPs.

Local MPs have said that young people could benefit from lessons on what information to post online, as well as to steer clear of risks, which could benefit families with broadband at home.

It was reported in the Western Mail that the lessons, which are already taught in some areas of England, could make the internet a safer place for children and their parents.
