Nokia move 'makes perfect sense'

Wednesday 26th August 2009, by Daniel King

Nokia's recent move into the laptop market could affect the next laptop choice of broadband users across the world and one expert has agreed that it may prove to be a smart decision for the company.

The Finnish manufacturer, which is better known for its mobile phones and associated technologies, unveiled the Booklet 3G this week, which boasts HDMI connectivity, integrated video camera, Bluetooth SD card reader and a ten-inch HD ready display.

Further to this, a spokesman for Computer Active, a UK-based publication that offers news, reviews and opinions about the latest developments in the sector, has noted the device represents a bold move for its creators - despite the fact that handsets and PCs are becoming more converged.

"We have the iPhone now that is a practically a laptop with a phone built into it so the idea that a phone manufacturer should start moving into the computing arena is fairly logical from my point of view," he explained, adding: "But, if it is successful then yes it is potentially a big shake up."

He went on to say that although both types of gadget are essential for many people's day-to-day business, there is still a role for both to play separately - as each perform better at different tasks.

Nokia announced on August 24th that following 25 years in the mobile industry it would bring its knowledge to the computing market with the Booklet 3G, which is based on the Microsoft Windows platform and uses an Intel Atom processor.
