O2 mobile broadband price halved

Mobile broadband provider O2 has halved the price of its on-the-go fast internet and free laptop packages available on 24-month contracts.
The firm will now charge £25 instead of £50 for customers wishing to combine, for example, the Asus Eee PC 1005H netbook with mobile broadband speeds of 3.6 Mbps and a three gigabyte data allowance.
It will also allow potential users to order the package online.
O2 also offers an alternative free laptop - the high-performance Samsung R519 - which will be offered as part of a £35-a-month deal, also with a 3 Gb limit.
Those who desire a higher amount of data transfer and download on either model can pay £10 more each month for the right to use up to 10 Gb.
Getting a free laptop has become a popular and common theme when signing up to mobile broadband contracts, but a large connection fee can be particularly unattractive to consumers.
O2 has recognised this and believes its new £25 fee will be far more agreeable to its customer base.
The Asus laptop arguably ticks many of the required boxes for mobile broadband users - with its long battery life and lightweight feel particularly useful to some.
On the other hand, the Samsung model is more of a home desk solution - but is well thought of amongst those who require a fast processing speed and high data transfer.
People who sign up to the O2 offer may wish to combine their technology with Vodafone's Sure Signal, which it unveiled last week to improve signal strength in remote locations.
