O2's free broadband offer extended

Tuesday 9th February 2010, by Daniel King

Telecommunications firm O2 has extended the deadline for people to sign up to its offer of free broadband internet access for two months.

People who sign up for O2 broadband by February 25th will now get two months free access - previously the deadline was January 31st.

All of O2's broadband services - Standard, Premium and Pro - are available under the terms of the offer, which could help an increased number of Britons bring fast and reliable internet into their home.

The Pro deal is priced at £17.50 a month, meaning those who sign up for it are set to save £35.

Indeed, this saving could be even greater for broadband customers who are not already with O2 for their mobile phone deal, as they will avoid a £10 join-up fee.

Other benefits include unlimited downloads, free customer support, security software and a wireless router.

And O2 has even put in place procedures for broadband users who are already committed to other providers, allowing them to register their interest prior to the deadline and still taking advantage of the offer at a later date.

O2 may be one of the broadband internet companies set to benefit from BT's proposal to open up its underground fibre-optic tunnels so they can be shared by other providers.

The tunnels contain the technology to offer super-fast broadband to the majority of the UK - and the sharing of them could be good news for customers of firms such as O2, Virgin Media and Sky.
