Having a reliable and speedy broadband connection could improve the online shopping experience, which an expert has said will continue to become more popular.
Although a good website is central to the success of a retailer's online revenue, it can also make the process easier and much more fun for the shopper, said the fashion director of Cosmopolitan.
Shelly Vella commented following the recent announcement from internet-only clothes shop ASOS, which reported a 90 per cent increase in sales recently. Profits before tax also went up, reaching £7.3 million - a 117 per cent improvement on last year.
According to Ms Vella, shopping online has a number of advantages over the traditional method, including more choice and no waiting around for assistants to retrieve the correct size.
"Whether you are living in the sticks or in the city you can go online and make purchases in your lunch hour," she explained. "That does appeal these days with people's busy lives."
The convenience and instantaneous nature of clicking a mouse to find out product information or add it to the basket was also noted as a benefit.
Last week saw IMRG Capgemini publish its e-Retail Sales Index, which found that compared to March of 2008, online sales have risen by 19 per cent.
Accessories, clothing and footwear remained in its position as the strongest performing sector, growing 28 per cent during the month and 26 per cent over the year.
