Online TV's popularity 'set to grow'
The number of people watching television programmes on the internet is likely to increase, according to industry experts.
Screen Digest said offerings such as the BBC's iPlayer have become far more popular than analysts had first expected, as it offers a good service to consumers and is easy to use.
Therefore, the organisation believes that more and more people will start taking advantage of their high-speed broadband connections and view broadcasts online.
However, it added that consumers could soon be watching programmes on devices other than PCs, such as iPhones and Nintendo Wii consoles.
Arash Amel, head of broadband media at Screen Digest, added: "What you're going to start to see over the next few years is the appearance of iPlayer-branded Freeview boxes."
According to figures from the BBC, there were 21 million requests for streamed and downloaded content on the iPlayer during April.
