Plusnet offers broadband package for £5.99

Broadband subscribers looking to beat the credit crunch without sacrificing their internet connection could take advantage of a brand-new offering from Plusnet.
The provider has unveiled what it claims to be "the UK's cheapest standalone broadband" package, which is designed to cater for those who are looking to cut their outgoings during the recession.
Plusnet Value is available for a standard rate of £5.99 a month and includes a wireless router, free setup and speeds of up to 8Mb.
It is also capped with a 10Gb usage allowance, although customers whose finances will stretch a little further can upgrade to Plusnet Unlimited at an initial price of £11.99 a month.
Anthony Vollmer, chief executive officer at Plusnet, said the new packages are designed to ensure that people who are suffering during the recession can still have "quality access" to the internet.
"People are determined to keep their access to the internet via broadband come what may."
"The web is probably the best job research facility ever invented and, combined with its ability to track down shopping bargains, is the ultimate weapon for families against the current downturn," he commented.
Mr Vollmer added that Plusnet Value would ensure that customers have full access to broadband services that they "cannot do without" at "an absolutely rock-bottom price".
The move comes after Ashley Highfield, managing director and vice-president of consumer and online UK at Microsoft, said people are unlikely to ditch their broadband connections despite the credit crunch.
He suggested that internet access has now become as essential to British consumers as water and electricity.
