PlusNet Webmail 'back on track'
Broadband provider PlusNet has announced that its Webmail function is once again up and running after being withdrawn last week.
The firm states that the services had to be halted last Wednesday to allow for "extensive security and penetration testing".
PlusNet's replacement system is based on the SquirrelMail Webmail software and is designed as a temporary solution.
"Following the withdrawal of our Webmail service on Wednesday, we have been working around the clock to build a replacement platform for our customers," said Dave Tomlinson, of the provider's customer support team.
A full incident report is being issued today and consumers are warned not to be alarmed if some of their emails show a sent date of 1970 – this is attributed to the sender's mail system creating a "malformed header".
"We are fully confident that the platform is secure and we have been working closely with BT Security teams to make this so," Mr Tomlinson added.
The service was made unavailable after the discovery of a number of security faults which could not be patched.
