Broadband users wanting to enjoy a greater choice of MP3 downloads may be interested to know that the US digital music service Rhapsody has removed its restrictions, reports the BBC.

Previously, those who used the website's subscription service were unable to play the tracks on the Apple iPod but Rhapsody is now offering digital format downloads.

Vice president of the firm Neil Smith explained: "We're no longer competing with the iPod. We're embracing it."

Those hoping to enhance their broadband experience with music can download albums for around £5 and MP3 tracks for approximately 50 pence, or select the subscriptions services which run from £6.50 per month.

Earlier in the year it was revealed that Napster was launching the largest online music service to operate without digital rights management, with over six million tracks available which play on any MP3 player, as well as transferring onto other devices and burning onto CD.
