Rural Yorkshire villages 'given broadband boost'

Two adjoining parishes in rural Yorkshire have been given a broadband boost thanks to the success of a broadband coverage project.
NextGenUs, Fibrestream's strategic partnership, implemented the successful scheme that will allow residents of Newton and Stape to gain access to broadband speeds of up to ten Mbps.
Tapping into an internet access feed from a school 20 kilometres away, the network runs a symmetric fixed line fibre-optic direct feed to the village where it deploys wireless technology to allow access on a local level.
The success of the NextGEnUs network hinges on methodology that Fibresteam calls fibre and wireless.
NextGenUs blog master Guy J said: "NextGenUS
has designed and deployed a next generation notspot elimination network that reaches beyond merely meeting the digital Britain two Mbps USC to enable the local community to leapfrog to speeds of up to ten Mbps symmetric today."
Blog master Guy J indicated that the network had the capacity to reach 100 Mbps to meet with growing demand in the future.
It has certainly changed the landscape for the 140 homes and businesses in the area, where conventional broadband access is virtually non-existent.
Blog master Guy J paid tribute to the collective endeavour that was required to pull-off the advancement. He noted the joint effort of the public, private and community sectors in solving the problem with a solution that put people, rather than commercial profits, first.
On January 7th, business secretary Lord Mandelson announced plans to give 90 per cent of the population access to the cutting edge broadband technology through an upgrade of the nation's digital infrastructure.
