The online shopping boom is expected to continue this Christmas, with each adult predicted to spend more than £500 on goods via the internet, new research shows.
Due to the rise in popularity of broadband, internet spending in the UK is expected to hit £13.6 billion between October and December this year, research from analysts Forrester Research suggests.
Such a figure would mean that the UK accounts for over a third over the total European spend online, more than France and Germany combined, the Independent reports.
The Internet Media Retail Group (IMRG), which represents e-tailers, suggests broadband has had a major factor on the online shopping industry.
James Roper, IMRG's chief executive, told the newspaper: "The significant growth forecast from Forrester can be attributed to many factors, the most significant being the easy access to broadband."
According to a report published by Ofcom in August, 53 per cent of UK households now have a broadband connection.
