Shorter domain names 'are better'

Business broadband users considering a suitable domain name should keep them as short as possible, according to advice issued by Startup Co.
Managing director of the group John De Groot explained that it is important to choose a name which is the same as the business being promoted, and recommended avoiding hyphenated names.
He added: "The use of keyword searches to discover what words people are searching on with search engines Google, etc - can provide guides to what the best domain name should be if it is not the business name."
As the popularity of broadband continues, a report by Verisign revealed that domain registrations reached 10.7 million during the first three months of 2007, a figure which suggests a year-on-year increase of 25 per cent.
Broadband users may also be interested in the high prices paid for domain names, such as the purchase of cruises.co.uk for £560,000 earlier in 2008, and mobile.co.uk for £120,000 last year.
