Sky has announced a new partnership that will allow its broadband customers to access a range of services through their Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming console.
The deal will see live pay-per-view television options, video on demand, interactive sports and other offerings made available via the machine - although a launch date and pricing structure has yet to be confirmed.
Incorporating the Sky Player technology, Xbox users across the UK and Ireland will also have the ability to use more features through the Xbox LIVE platform - a broadband compatible option that allows movie, TV show and game downloads.
"As well as fans being able to communicate with one another in real time via their broadband connections, they will also be able to check news and access fixtures, league tables and other on-demand information," according to Sky.
The firm is promising the library of on-demand content will include "thousands" of shows that span all types of genre - including films, children's programmes, documentaries and sport.
In addition, people will be able to sign up using the console itself - although a reliable broadband connection will be required.
Stephen Nuttall, director of the broadcaster and media company's commercial division, said the partnership would allow its customers a broader choice of content and greater control over what they view and when they view it.
"For Sky, this makes our content even more widely available and opens up a new commercial opportunity," he added.
The group recently announced it had secured the rights to broadcast a companion piece to award-winning war drama Band of Brothers.
