'Slick design' for new BlackBerry Twitter application

Fans of social networking who use their BlackBerry for mobile broadband could be set for a boost as a result of a new Twitter application for the handset.

The beta version of the program was recently reviewed by Know Your Mobile and it sounds like Research in Motion (RIM), which makes the phone and software, has come up trumps with the client.

Writing for the website, Simon Bisson commented that he was immediately struck with its slick design - akin to RIM's own Facebook application.

And I know I may seem easily pleased here, but the fact that he said it looks just like Twitter's own website is great.

After all, mobile broadband users want something as close as possible to the real thing and any indication that handset developers are now leaving behind the technology of old where it simply didn't feel like you were surfing the web can only be a bonus.

"You'll find many of the features that have become standard in Twitter clients, from persistent searches to details of the currently most popular topics and hash tags," he added.

In addition, he explained: "It's certainly going to be successful and this is a credible Twitter application that compares well with the rest of the pack."

However - and we'll see what all you BlackBerry owners out there think about this - he suggested that a new client perhaps isn't actually necessary.

Do you think you need a new application for Tweeting on the move?
