Study: 3 in 10 Europeans watch online video
Monday 28th July 2008, by Daniel King
A new study has found that 28 per cent of Europeans are watching video content online thanks to the proliferation of high-speed broadband.
According to Jupiter Research, the most popular videos are user-generated content and short clips, which can be found on sites like YouTube.
Only nine per cent of those surveyed said they watched full-length videos.
Analysts at Jupiter believe next-generation broadband connections will drive video content even further.
Nick Thomas, analyst at the firm, said that online video has "broken through" and is a favourite pastime for many broadband users.
"Although TV is still the primary place to watch video content, it is vital that broadcasters actively engage users online as well as on TV," he added.
CIP Technologies recently published research suggesting that broadband-hungry services like online video could lead to a doubling in bandwidth over the coming two years.
