TalkTalk launches online competition

Tuesday 23rd June 2009, by Daniel King

TalkTalk is celebrating one of its most recent home broadband and telephone deals with the launch of a new online competition.

As part of its new Essentials package - which provides users access to wireless internet speeds of up to eight megabytes, a 40 gigabyte download limit and free evening and weekend calls to all landlines - the firm is offering a number of prizes.

Some £1,000 worth of shopping vouchers is up for grabs for those able to fire enough artillery at the networks latest offers - as part of a fast-paced Java game available to play online through the company's official blog site.

"The idea of the game is to knock down your phone bill by shooting cookies at the call cost signs as they pop up around TalkTalk town. The person at the top of the leaderboard will win £400 worth of shopping vouchers, with £150 for the 2nd–5th placed cookie shooters," the service provider notes.

An article on the blog this week discussed some of the possibilities that could be thrown up with the appointment of a new speaker in the House of Commons. It was noted plans by Conservative candidate Sir Alan Haselhurst included the increased use of modern technology in government.

Apparently the MP suggested the general public should have access to a web-based service where they can email ideas to the house, with more control given to the speaker to introduce these debates.

However, last night it was revealed that Tory candidate John Bercow would be the replacement for Michael Martin.
