Target and 3 to launch broadband starter kits

UK customers will soon be able to make the most of new mobile broadband starter kits courtesy of UK IT distributor Target Components.

The firm has struck a deal with mobile operator 3 as it seeks to boost its product portfolio and offer broadband services to customers.

Under the partnership, Target will be supplying starter kits to consumers, allowing them to access the internet while on the move and without having to be in range of a wireless hub.

Instead, users will log on via USB dongles that come preloaded with 3 mobile broadband credit, which remains valid for 12 months.

Target purchasing manager Kelly Burnley said the move has come in response to increasing customer demand, with the starter kits also on offer as part of a laptop bundle.

"Mobile broadband is something we have been looking at for sometime as it fits very well within our product portfolio so we were delighted when Hutchinson approached us," she said.

"We have seen a massive growth in laptop and netbook sales and customers have been asking us for mobile broadband products for sometime," Ms Burnley added.

The 12GB starter kits will include up to 120 hours of surf time and allow customers to access 384 four-minute music singles, 60 four-minute video clips and 12,000 emails.

Users can purchase additional mobile broadband credit once these initial credits have been used up.

UK mobile operator Orange recently announced a three-year partnership with Hewlett Packard, which will see the provider offer free laptops to customers who sign up to its £30-a-month, two-year mobile broadband contract.
