T-Mobile tops poll for mobile broadband speeds

Web users who subscribe to T-Mobile mobile broadband service experience the fastest performance speeds in the UK, an independent study has revealed.

According to research carried out by leading test house P3 Solutions, the provider offered an internet experience up to 35 per cent faster than its nearest competitors over the last quarter of 2008.

Since testing began, T-Mobile has generated a 40 per cent increase in download speeds and has now topped the poll for performance over two consecutive quarters.

Emin Gurdenli chief technology officer at T-Mobile, said this represents a "significant achievement" for the firm.

"Our consistently high performance is testament to the fact that we continually test and improve our network to make sure our customers are getting the best possible mobile broadband experience," he said.

With more customers now looking to make use of the increased flexibility and convenience of mobile broadband, T-Mobile would continue to "expand on the potential" of the service with new tariffs and improved performance, he added.

The study saw networks tested for their speed and reliability in 16 cities across the UK during hours of peak usage and investigated web browsing, upload speeds and sending and receiving email.

As well as offering a faster overall experience for its mobile broadband users, T-Mobile was also found to provide upload performance that is 59 per cent quicker than that offered by its rivals.

Earlier this month, fellow provider Vodafone announced the successful trial of a new mobile broadband connection that would allow customers to benefit from download speeds of up 16Mbps.
