UK broadband trends revealed

A new report has revealed that broadband uptake is on the rise in the UK.

In its latest International Communications Market report, telecoms regulator Ofcom states that more than half of all British households had a broadband connection at the end of last year - a higher proportion than that found in the US.

Meanwhile, the purchase of bundled services was found to be more cost-effective than the practice of buying each service separately in all of the countries examined, while broadband connections grew at a rate of over 600 per cent between 2001 and 2006 in the UK.

"The report shows that convergence, bundling and the move to digital communications is a powerful global phenomenon," commented Ed Richards, chief executive of Ofcom.

Last month, the organisation released a report that suggested broadband take-up has seen a significant rise among the over-65 age group in the last 12 months.
