Broadband users are contributing to a national internet habit which takes up an average 18 hours a month, according to new research by Nielsen Online.
However, as a country we are some way behind the web-happy USA which spend 28 hours per month on the internet - amounting to around an hour a day, according to the Telegraph.
It was revealed that China is becoming increasingly internet savvy, as 61 per cent of the population went online in the past year, with 221 million Chinese people getting online by the end of February this year.
Users in the UK are ahead of those in Brazil, Italy and Germany where internet and broadband users are online for around 16 hours a week.
The habit seems to be catching children at a young age, as research reported by the BBC shows that over a quarter of eight to 11-year-olds who have internet access, such as broadband at home, have a social networking profile.
