UK places fifth in broadband rankings

Recent figures have revealed that the UK has the fifth largest broadband-subscriber population.

Published by Point Topic, the survey showed that Britain remained a strong player in the global broadband market, placing behind Germany in fourth, reports ISP Review.

The top three was comprised of the USA in first, with China and Japan in second and third respectively.

Throughout the world there was a growth of 3.92 per cent in users which correlates to a 14.44 million increase in numbers between quarter one and two of 2008.

The global penetration of broadband into the world's population rose from 5.5 per cent to 6.6 per cent in the second quarter on a year-by-year basis.

In related news, the European internet audience recently hit the 240 million mark, according to comScore.

Behind Germany and the UK in first and second was France, while Russia had the fastest growing audience with France and Spain also experiencing solid growth in the sector.
