UK's best websites reported by BT

Friday 18th January 2008, by Daniel King

The results of a poll by BT Total Broadband have shown the preferred sites of broadband users in 17 categories.

Winners included holymoly.co.uk for best celebrity website, while amazon.com claimed the best books and best electrical website, as well as best online retailer.

The best news website was awarded to bbc.co.uk, while internet giant Google was named best search engine followed by yahoo.co.uk.

Manchester won the local government category, which Suraj Kika of Jadu describes as a "milestone in local government websites".

"We use our website as one of the vital channels to make contact with and to hear from our communities, so we are delighted to receive this award," explains leader of Manchester City Council Richard Leese.

Matt Walton, head of online channel development at BT, commented that the results reflected broadband users were most attracted by the range of products and information, followed by ease of use.
