Valentine's virus email alert issued

Thursday 14th February 2008, by Daniel King

Broadband users are being urged to be aware of a virus disguised as a Valentine's greeting, which could lead to consumers also considering their current broadband security system.

Some e-cards have been laden with the storm worm virus, which can be hidden in attachments and can lead to hackers using the infected computer to send spam and denial of service attacks.

PC World advices: "If you don't recognise the name or the email address, then delete it" as the subject of the message may vary.

It also highlighted the importance of anti-virus and anti-spyware applications, which can protect broadband users from unwanted attacks, adding that this virus is so damaging it has led to an FBI warning.

It has also been brought to light that viruses could start to affect mobile phones as an increasing number of consumers use their phone to access the internet, according to security specialist McAfee.
