Video sites 'more common'

Broadband users now enjoy video sites as "part of everyday culture," according to the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB).

Thanks to improvements in available technology and a higher standard of content, the IAB explained that there are more video specific sites online than there were a year ago.

Programmes manager at IAB Jack Wallington explained: "The video players themselves have become easier to access and use, while broadband has made the videos bigger and of higher quality."

He added that broadband users were now offered video-content from sites such as the Guardian, as well as famed specific sites such as iPlayer and 4oD, all offering an "excellent experience".

It was revealed that the amount of UK video websites increased by 178 per cent in February 2008 from the year before, reported Hitwise who undertook the research.

The findings also showed that 2.2 per cent of all websites used by UK internet consumers were part of the top 25 video sites.
