Vodafone appoints two new board members

Wednesday 27th May 2009, by Daniel King

Telecommunications and broadband services provider Vodafone has announced the appointment of two new executives to its board of directors this week.

It is noted that the company will install Michel Combes and Stephen Pusey in their new roles from June 1st this year and has highlighted the many qualities it is hoped they will both bring to the table.

Sir John Bond, chairman of Vodafone, explained that the decision to promote the two men was based on "their deep knowledge of the telecommunications industry and their significant international experience".

"Their appointments will help ensure that there is a good balance on the board of both executive and non-executive directors. I am confident that Michel and Steve will be major contributors to the future of Vodafone," he added

As chief executive of Vodafone in the firm's Europe region, Mr Combes comes to the board having joined the company last October. Prior to this he had spent two years as chairman and chief executive of the TDF Group.

Other roles the new appointee has enjoyed include senior vice-president of group finance and chief financial officer for France Telecom, as well as positions at Globecast, Nouvelles Frontieres and Assystem-Brime.

Mr Pusey has been with the telephony and internet provider since September 2006, currently holds the title of group chief technology officer and has responsibilities that include Vodafone's networking, IT and research departments.

Previously he has been executive vice-president and president of Nortel EMEA, as well as spending time at British Telecom.

Last week Vodafone published its preliminary results for the year ending March 2009.
